We have all experienced the afternoons were time seems to drag on and you’d give anything to just kick back and shut your eyelids for 1 or 2 minutes. If you are like many of us, this is about the time you head to the snack machine at work, plunk in your coins and chug down a cold fizzy beverage hoping to jolt yourself awake with a surge of sugary carbonation. But what you may not know is this routine might be causing you more fatigue rather than giving you the burst of energy you’re looking for.

Dr. Robert O. Young has spent years studying the effect of astringency on the body and revealed that when a person has too much acidity in their body from eating the incorrect kinds of foods, a whole number of unexpected side effects can occur including fatigue. The more puddings, alcohol, and junk food you eat the more acid you almost certainly have in your system.

By testing your pH balance regularly using pH test strips, you can define whether your body is healthy. The range goes from 0 ( highly acidic ) to 14 ( highly alkaline. ) A good level is right in the middle at 7. If you see that about your acidic quantities are too high, you can enhance your pH balance by eating more alkaline foods like spinach ( which is about a thirteen on the scale ) and by cutting back on soda pop ( which is around a 2 on the scale. )

Another great way to improve your energy is by drinking green drinks, or drinks that are high on the alkaline scale. Green tea has been shown in some tests to not only help alkali levels but also increase the amount of calories burned while exercising and to improve cholesterol. So rather than reaching for a cola to help get thru a drowsy afternoon, make minor changes to your normal diet by substituting alkaline foods for acidic ones and see your energy levels improve.
